Find out more

You're bound to have lots of questions and we are always happy to chat through them with you, either by phone or email but below are a few of the most frequently answered questions we get asked.

Where can we leave our car?
Our mooring base has free car parking for our guests.

Can you collect us from another location?
Our normal mooring base is in South Walsham, which is where all of our cruises depart from, however, we can arrange to collect you from a riverside location in any of the following local villages Horning, Wroxham, Acle, Potter Heigham, Ludham, Womack, Upton, Stokesby, Salhouse or Ranworth.  Please note there will be an additional charge for this service or it can be included in the duration of your cruise.

Do we need to be able to swim?
No - we don't plan on you going into the water and even if there were to be an emergency we have very specific and well rehearsed action plans.
Can we bring a dog?
Sorry, we do not allow dogs onboard "Norfolk Time".

We have limited mobility, will we still be able to get on the boat?
"There are some steps into the boat, which guests will need to be able to negotiate although our crew will be on hand to assist where necessary.  There are also three further steeper steps down into the cabin (and toilet), however, we would advise that you contact us first to discuss your exact needs.

Do we have to pre-book?
Yes, unfortunately, we are generally unable to offer last minute cruises.

Is it safe for children to be on the boat?
Absolutely - it's a great adventure for them, what better way to spend the day is there than being pirates!  We do ask that there is one adult per child who will be responsible for each child for the duration of the cruise and that they always follow our safety instructions which we go through before we leave our mooring base.

Whilst many children are enthralled by the boat and the ever changing scenery there may be times when they may need some extra stimulation so we would encourage you to prebook one of our Children's Fun Packs to keep them thoroughly entertained.

Do you provide buoyancy aids?
Of course!  We take the safety of our guests and crew very safely and follow strict guidelines on all aspects of our journey.

Can we bring our own food and drink?
No, sorry - we can provide a range of dining options, nibbles and refreshments but these must be pre-booked at the time of booking.

Where can we cruise?
We are based on the Northern Broads which is often thought to be the most picturesque of the Broads with lots of pretty waterside villages and riverside homes to marvel at.  Our usual base is South Walsham and from here we can cruise north as far as Wroxham and depending on time and water levels, as far south as Stokesby.  The height of the boat restricts access to certain parts of the Broads that have low bridges so please be aware that we cannot access all areas of the Broads.  Our crew are highly experienced in choosing the very best route to suit your party and the length of your cruise but if there are specific places that you would like to visit please inform us at the time of booking and we will endeavour to ensure that it is included in our route (subject to time, tide and bridge restraints).

What if we get delayed?
We advise all our guests to arrive up to 15 minutes before our actual departure time.  This allows us enough time to run through our strict safety procedures, fit you with buoyancy aids and get you acquainted with the boat without eating into any of your cruising time.  However, if you do arrive late we will be unable to add extra time to the duration of your time onboard and the cruise will finish at the original booked time.

What happens if we spill anything or damage the boat?
We would ask that you respect the boat at all times and follow the advice and instructions of the crew but we do appreciate that accidents can happen.  In the event of any spillage or damage if we have to carry out additional work to clean or rectify any issues then you will be charged to recover our costs and ensure that the enjoyment and comfort of future guests is not unduly affected.

What happens if there is bad weather on the day?
Whilst Norfolk is renowned for being the driest county in the UK and we can organise many things for our guests we sadly cannot guarantee that we won't experience weather bad enough to stop us from cruising.  The safety of our guests, crew and the boat is of utmost importance to us and cancelling your booking would be the last thing we want to do but if we do have to cancel due to extremely bad weather (high winds, storms, flooding, snow & ice) which could pose a risk we will refund you in full within twenty four hours or happily reschedule your booking to another convenient date.  If it is safe to cruise we will but please note that we cannot give any refunds if we deem it safe to cruise and you choose not to travel.

How fast will we go?
"Norfolk Time" is a sea-going cruiser and is capable of speeds of up to 30 miles per hour but we are restricted to the speed limits on the river which are between 4 and 6 mph.  We prefer a much more sedate and peaceful cruise so will not exceed the speed limits.

Is there a toilet onboard?
Yes, we have a guest toilet with hand basin.  Full instructions on how to use it will be given by our crew.

Can we fish?
Unfortunately, we do not allow fishing from the boat.

Can we stop off on the way
Yes, but this must be pre-arranged and is always subject to safe and available mooring space on route.  Any stoppage time will also be included in your cruise time.  The skipper's decision is final.  Please speak to us before arrival if you would like to factor in stoppages during your cruise.

Is smoking allowed?
No, sorry we do not allow smoking inside or on the decks of the boat.  We can arrange for smoking stops, where possible, during your cruise but please note that stoppage time will be included in your cruise time.  Please speak to us before arrival if you would like us to arrange this.

How do we book?
We operate on a first come, first served basis and would advise you to get in touch with us first to ensure that your preferred cruise date is available.  We can then provisionally hold the date for you for up to 48 hours in which time we ask that you to complete and submit the online booking form (it usually works best using an laptop, computer or tablet rather than a mobile telephone).  We will then confirm in writing to you the exact arrangements and send you an invoice.  Full payment is then due for the cruise plus any optional extras that you have requested by return.  Cruises are not fully confirmed until full payment is received and we ask that payment is received within 24 hours otherwise we will release your provisionally held date.

Please note that all of our additional extras including food and drink must be pre-ordered - we are unable to provide any additional items including drinks once you are onboard as we do not carry extra supplies.

If you have a date in mind we would advise early booking to avoid disappointment.  All guests must agree to abide by our Terms and Conditions.  We would advise that you read through these carefully before booking.

What happens if we have to cancel?
Unfortunately, if you cancel your booking this will result in the loss of all monies paid, less the costs of any food not already prepared or ingredients purchased.  Depending on the notice given of the cancellation it may be possible to transfer your booking to another date but this will be at the discretion of Broadland Charters.  Please do read through our Terms and Conditions before booking.
